[HWPL] HWPL Peace Tours of Man-hee Lee (10): 50+ media outlets report in the Philippines and Thailand, “Chairman Lee's message is the answer to world peace”

Chairman Man-hee Lee is being interviewed live on Philippine state broadcaster PTV News on June 13, 2013 during the 5th Peace Tour

Chairman Man-hee Lee visited the Philippines and Thailand in Southeast Asia during the 5th peace tour from June 12-21, 2013. The 5th tour was the first since the proclamation of the 'Declaration of World Peace and Restoration of Light' and the 'International Peace Youth Group Peace Walk' held at the World Peace Gate in Olympic Park, Seoul, where 30,000 youth from 130 countries gathered.

About 50 media outlets, including Philippine and Thai state broadcasters, radio stations and newspapers, reported on the activities of Chairman Lee and the peace delegation, who appealed for participation in the 'Youth Peace Movement' and the 'Movement for the Cessation of War', and introduced their vision for world peace in detail.

In particular, Chairman Lee was inundated with questions about his motivation for launching a global peace movement and his activities. With serious intent, they asked questions of Chairman Lee's views on the reunification of South and North Korea.

Radio DJ Eji Frasis Uangren of DZUP (1602 AM) is conducting a live interview with Chairman Lee, during Chairman Lee's 5th peace tour, on June 12, 2013

Interviews with radio stations and TV reporters continued from the first day to the last in the Philippines. DZUP (1602 AM) Radio broadcast a live interview which, by exception, was extended by 30 minutes upon an on air request made by listeners.

Chairman Lee also appeared live on the Philippine state broadcaster PTV News, where he introduced the purpose and activities for world peace in detail. As a result, major media outlets in the Philippines daily reported, with intent, Chairman Lee's progress toward world peace.

In addition, on the radio broadcaster TV5, Chairman Lee was asked about his steps as a peace activist and his meetings with the presidents he had met. At a subsequent meeting with Filipino reporters, Chairman Lee received a barrage of questions.

A press conference is being held at The Manila Hotel in the Philippines on June 13, 2013, during the 5th peace tour of Chairman Man-hee Lee

A news reporter at the meeting said, “I am aware of the peace activities that have been done so far. Welcome to the Philippines.” He asked, “What kind of confidence do you have about the reunification of the Korean Peninsula?”

To this, Chairman Lee answered confidently, “It is not that North Korea does not want the peace that everyone desires. When our peace movement finishes travelling the globe and ends in North Korea, then the reunification of the Koreas will come true."

A reporter from a university newspaper asked, “How can peace in the Philippines be achieved?” Chairman Lee replied that if world peace is achieved, then the Philippines will naturally find peace. Chairman Lee explained that the issue of peace is not a problem for one country alone, but for the entire global village.

About 30 major local media outlets, including radio and press, attended the press conference held on the 13th of June and poured out a barrage of questions, making the visit a hot topic.

In particular, GNN requested an exclusive interview with Chairman Lee. GNN reporters asked why he had launched the peace movement and how the Filipino people and the media could participate in Chairman Lee's peace activities.

First, Chairman Lee asked the representatives of Philippine youth groups to participate in the peace activities of International Peace Youth Group (IPYG). He continued, “I ask that the media frequently show and report videos containing the content of world peace and restoration of light to the public so that it can reach the hearts of all people and make a difference.”

On the third day of the peace tour, Chairman Lee appeared on Radyo Natin Network, a Philippine radio station. Interviews were conducted on world peace and restoration of light, the role of youth groups, and the cessation of war. Following the interview, a request was received for an encore and additional interviews were conducted.

After the Philippines, interviews with local media were also held in Thailand. On June 18, 2013, Bro Witt, chief reporter of 'The Nation Newspaper', interviewed Chairman Lee, and said, "Until now, when I think of Korea, I usually think of K-pop and mobile phone companies, but this meeting has painted a different picture. I hope that the people of Thailand will know about this, too.”

After an interview with Thai state broadcaster MVTV, reporter Sorachat said, "Even though people come from different languages   and cultures, Chairman Lee's message will be the final answer to those seeking love and peace."

On June 19, 2013, during the 5th peace tour, MVTV, the state broadcaster of Thailand, visited the Shangri-La Hotel to report on Chairman Man-hee Lee

He said, “He is confident in his vision. If there is someone like Chairman Lee in our global village, which is rife with conflict including between South and North Korea, the goal of ‘world peace’ will be achieved.”

After recording the studio interview, Thai NBC news reporter Wizitrarundi said, “I am very impressed. It is amazing how an individual can show such a strong momentum not only for the peace of the country but also the peace of the world.”

In an interview with Korean media after returning from the tour, Chairman Lee said, "Filipino and Thai state broadcasters and daily news reporters mostly asked about world peace and restoration of light. I emphasized the role of government and youth. If you, the media, want peace, then you should join in, too.”

[HWPL] Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED), under the jurisdiction of the President of the Philippines, Signs an MOA with HWPL

 [HWPL]

[HWPL] Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED), under the jurisdiction of the President of the Philippines, Signs an MOA with HWPL

Memorandum of Agreement signed between HWPL and Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on January 23, 2018

Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (Chairman Man-hee Lee) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at the Higher Education Development Center Building in Quezon City, Philippines during the 26th HWPL Peace Tour on January 23, 2018. CHED is a national institution under the direct jurisdiction of the Philippine presidential office, and it is an organization that manages and supervises more than 2,000 higher education institutions (colleges and others). This MOA has held great significance as it established a foothold for the implementation of HWPL peace education throughout the Philippines, starting at universities. The MOA was signed by CHED Commissioner Dr. Ronald L. Adamat, on behalf of the Chairman of CHED.

Adamat (third from left), following the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement at the Higher Education Development Center Building in Quezon City, Philippines on January 23, 2018

Commissioner Adamat has actively supported HWPL's peace education. “I sincerely support HWPL Peace Education,” he said. “With the help of both the HWPL-Commission on Higher Education and Volunteer Individuals for Peace (VIP), HWPL Peace Education provides all children with peace-building capacities, communication skills, and conflict identification and it can teach them how to mediate.” He also said, “Fostering peace education through CHED will have an impact on educational institutions in the Philippines, and will play an important role in promoting peace. This is to achieve sustainable development and transform the Philippines into a society where people live in harmony and respect each other.”

Dr. Adamat also attended the 7th Anniversary of the January 24 HWPL Peace Day event held online this year, and delivered a keynote speech on HWPL peace education, saying, "People can interact with each other with respect, trust, kindness, and non-violence. This will show you how to do it.”

On the day of the MOA signing, Chairman Man-hee Lee's peace lecture was held at Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Even before the MOA signing with the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED), peace education was already in progress in the Philippines. Earlier, on January 25, 2016, the MOU signing ceremony of HWPL Peace Education was held at Cotabato City State Polytechnic College (CCSPC, President Dammang S. Bantala). About 5,000 guests, including principals (16), professors and students attended the event. On that day, a signboard-hanging ceremony was held to designate Polytechnic University as an HWPL Peace School, and 16 principals were appointed as HWPL ambassadors.

After the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED), which is a national institution under the direct jurisdiction of the President of the Philippines, peace education has been applied to the curriculum at every educational level and is being implemented. (Above) Students participate in a small group peace education meeting at a school in Cotabato City, Mindanao

Following the Mindanao Civil Peace Agreement mediated by HWPL Chairman Man-Hee Lee on January 24, 2014, HWPL and local residents planned and carried out a peace education project to establish a culture of peace.

As a result, CCSPC became the first higher education institution HWPL Peace School in the Philippines. On September 18, 2017, the following year, President Dammang S. Bantala introduced Commissioner Adamat to HWPL at the 3rd Annual Commemoration of the WARP Summit. At this meeting, Commissioner Adamat was moved by the peace movement that Chairman Lee started by saying, "Let's end war and make peace in the global village and pass it on to future generations," and decided to become a messenger of peace in the Philippines.

Four months later, in January 2018, Chairman Man-Hee Lee visited the Philippines on his 26th World Peace Tour with the HWPL Peace Delegation. During the schedule, the MOA between CHED and HWPL was made.

Since the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED), which is a national institution under the direct jurisdiction of the President of the Philippines, peace education has been applied to the curriculum at every educational level, and is being implemented. Students attend a lesson based on peace textbook at a school in Cotabato City in Muslim Mindanao.

Then, on August 7 of that year, CHED issued a resolution (No. 435-2018) for the approval of the integration of peace studies, research and education, and the following year, CHED Executive Order No.1 was decided on to integrate peace education into the higher education curriculum. With such administrative support, peace education in the Philippines has been gaining momentum.

HWPL Peace Education is being expanded and applied to basic education institutions (early childhood to secondary education) as well as to higher education institutions in the Philippines (state universities and junior colleges) supervised by CHED. The partnership between CHED and HWPL has since been followed by MOUs with three higher education institutions, and peace education is being conducted at 29 basic curriculum school sites. A further 15 MOUs and 3 MOAs have been made.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, in February last year, an online peace education program called “Voice of Peace Philippines” was conducted using the video conferencing program Zoom, and 1,213 teachers attended. The University of Pasig City conducts online peace education, live streamed via Facebook, for about 3,000 students once a month.

In some parts of the Philippines, HWPL peace education will be held regularly at each school once a week, starting with the 2021-2022 school year that starts this summer.

An online webinar is held to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) on March 7 2021.

A memorandum of understanding (MOA) signed by and between HWPL and Parañaque City Public Library in Manila, Philippines for peace education, including the establishment of a 'Peace Room'

Residents of Mindanao, Philippines, who suffered a bloody conflict for more than 40 years, are not oblivious to January 24, 2014. Since the civil peace agreement made on that day, which was dramatically established through the mediation of Man-Hee Lee, Chairman of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an air of peace has continued to spread through various peace projects, and residents are experiencing peace unlike anything felt in decades. Precious peace has been established on the island of Mindanao as a legacy for posterity. Extending beyond Mindanao, HWPL's civil peace agreement in other regions of the Philippines has equally served as exemplary peace education for posterity.

Chairman Man-hee Lee of HWPL and his peace delegation, who were visiting the Philippines on their 30th peace tour, sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Parañaque City Public Library (PCPL) Manila on February 15, 2019. The MOU was signed by Chairman Man-hee Lee of HWPL, Edwin Olivarez (Mayor of Parañaque), Eric Olivarez (Member of Parliament for Parañaque City District 1), and Cissette Ricardo (manager of PCPL). Prior to the signing of the MOU, an inaugural ceremony for the installation of an HWPL Peace Room at PCPL was also held. PCPL provided an easily accessible space on the first floor for residents to come and witness an exhibition of HWPL's peace education.

Through this memorandum of understanding (MOU), the two organizations were able to establish a close working relationship based on the values of mutual respect and trust to promote HWPL's peace movement to youth and people throughout the Philippines. The MOU serves to establish and ensure the required cooperation between the two organizations for the implementation of peace promotion.

HWPL agreed to provide materials and publications, including HWPL Monthly Newsletter, HWPL books, magazines, DVDs and other related peace content. Furthermore, with the approval of the library, the decision was made to decorate and design a space, named 'HWPL Peace Room’, on the first floor of the library building totalling an area of  41.57m².

The library also designated a librarian to coordinate, promote and maintain this space and it promised to provide related activities to spread the culture of peace promulgated by HWPL.

In this MOU, the two organizations agreed to establish a close collaborative relationship based on mutual respect and trust in order to promote HWPL's work to youth and people throughout the Philippines, and it ensures the required communication and collaboration between the two organizations to implement peace promotion.

HWPL agreed to provide materials and publications, such as the HWPL Monthly Newsletter, HWPL books, magazines and DVDs and other HWPL peace-related content, and the decision was made to decorate and design the space agreed upon by PCPL.

PCPL provided a space for the ‘HWPL Peace Room' located on the first floor of the PCPL building with an area of 41.57m², and it made the decision to designate a librarian to coordinate, promote and maintain this space, and to provide peace-related activities for collaborative peace culture projects.

An HWPL 'Peace Hall' had already been established in Davao City, Philippines on January 26, 2016, when the Museo Dabawenyo ('People's Museum') opened a special exhibition of HWPL's peace activities in Mindanao.

Davao City's museum and public library decided to keep records of HWPL's peace activities in its building, and to conduct ongoing education for citizens and students to raise awareness of peace. At that time, Rodrigo Duterte, Mayor of Davao City (current President of the Philippines) said, “I realized each of our community members needs to take actions in order to be strong proponents of peace. I hope news of this ceremony spreads beyond the Mindanao region and sets an example for the rest of the world to follow.” He praised the culture of peace.

An HWPL Peace Library was also installed at Tarlac State University in the Philippines.

On March 14, 2016, Muna Malari, Dean of Tarlac State University in the Philippines, who attended the DPCW proclamation ceremony in Korea, said in an interview with this paper, “We have created a peace library in our university and a peace room so that all HWPL videos can be viewed.” In reference to the HWPL peace education craze blowing in the Philippines, he said, “I will inform the whole of the Philippines about HWPL’s progress.” During the 26th peace tour in January 2018, HWPL signed an MOA for peace education with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to spread peace education in the Philippines.

As such, the local community acknowledged the sincerity of HWPL's peace movement. On the morning of October 7, 2018, SBS 'Sunday Special Documentary' entitled 'Peace, a long way to go' captured the local situation in the region of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Most of the episode aired on that day was dedicated to HWPL's peace movement.

In the episode aired that day, Dr. Julieta Paras, Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 2 said, “There have been many conflicts and civil wars in the Philippines. Peace education is being taught in the higher education course, and this will be a good opportunity to change the painful past of the Philippines.” She also said, “Peace education is an important process for a peaceful life, free from conflict, by fostering understanding of different religions, preventing violence caused by conflicts between religions, and acknowledging different lifestyles.”

Regarding the civil peace agreement mediated by HWPL, the documentary reported, "In 2014, a civil peace agreement was signed between the Islamic and Catholic leaders of Mindanao in 2014, where more than 120,000 soldiers and civilians died during a bloody 40-year conflict between Catholics and Muslims." It also reported, “These efforts soon led to an official peace agreement between the Philippine government and the Islamic Autonomous Army.”

The unveiling ceremony of the HWPL Peace Monument is held at the base of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in the province of Sultan Kudarat, Mindanao, Philippines during the 2nd anniversary of the ‘Mindanao Civil Peace Agreement’ on January 24, 2016

[HWPL] HWPL Presents Practical Peace for the End of War and Conflict in Mindanao, Philippines

 [HWPL]

[HWPL] HWPL Presents Practical Peace for the End of War and Conflict in Mindanao, Philippines

This year marks the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. A terrible war, which is on the scale of the world war, devastated the country and caused millions of casualties. The war has forced Korean Peninsula to spend decades in confrontation and tension up until now. In the peninsula, which is divided in two, young people are still holding guns and aiming at each other. Moreover, as the recent war in Ukraine has had a big impact on the daily lives of the Republic of Korea, which is on the other side of the globe, people are once again feeling the need for peace.

Analysis of past Israeli-Palestinian and northeastern African conflicts mentions in many cases that knowing the cause of the conflict is a very important factor, and that the approach of ethnic-religious elements is inevitable for conflict resolution and sustainable peace. Also, the need for a peaceful process has been further raised as Russia's recent blockade of grain exports has been criticized as a criminal act that incites food shortages in countries such as Africa and the Middle East.

In a statement by the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, "I call on political, religious and community leaders to reject violence and speak up against those who try to inflame the situation. We must all work toward restoring hope and the prospect of a political resolution to this conflict." As mentioned, the voices of leaders play an important role in achieving peace. As can be seen in the Eritrean-Ethiopian case, international organizations such as the African Union provide a better opportunity to mediate the peace process in conflict zone, and the leader's decision could lead to the end of the war.

In this reality, there is an international peace organization in Korea that leads the change so that the global village may be imbued with a culture of peace, named Heavenly Culture, World Peace, and Restoration of Light (HWPL). As a veteran, HWPL Chairman Man Hee Lee witnessed the horrors of the Korean War and presented answers for peace and life in the world of conflict and death. Urging everyone in the world to become one in peace, he always shouts 'We Are One!'. The representative achievement of the peace steps he and HWPL have made is the fruit of contributing to peace in Mindanao, the Philippines, ending its 50-year history of conflict.

Mindanao was a region of the largest armed conflict in Southeast Asia. The Mindanao conflict clearly shows the crisis, faced by the global community, of rampant conflicts based on ethnic, religious identity that emerged in the 21st century. Mindanao's peace was a matter of direct connection to global security issues beyond the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

Efforts were made to resolve the dispute after it caused massive casualties. It’s the Mindanao peace agreement. International private organizations, along with the governments of Japan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Kingdom, supported the peace agreement, including Malaysia, the mediator of the official peace agreement between the government and the MILF. In addition to the official process, international organizations such as the European Union, Organization of the Islamic Cooperation and various private organizations have begun to establish peace by supporting it and providing humanitarian aid. Nonetheless, the signing of a peace treaty never ended the conflict. Mindanao's peace demonstrated the need for a fundamental and long-term approach across politics, economy, society, and culture to prevent a recurrence of war. Hence, HWPL, based in South Korea, began a journey of peace to Mindanao which is directly linked to world peace. The civic peace agreement mediated by the HWPL was Mindanao's declaration of permanent peace. Since then, HWPL and all involved, including local politics, religion, and civil society, have been cooperating for peace.

Regarding the achievements made in Mindanao since 2013, when the civil-level peace agreement was signed, Man Hee Lee, Chairman of HWPL, consistently says, "It’s what God did" and "God accompanied us," not personal achievements. With mysterious and miraculous powers leading to the cooperation of the global community, he always emphasizes, "Let all the global community become advocates of peace and leave peace as a legacy of future generations." The possibility of peace emphasized by the HWPL will come as a reality when people of the world decide to join and become one in peace. Global family members of peace wish this process will pave a way for the world to become a global village filled with news of peace rather than war, as “We are One” resonates around the world.

[HWPL] 8th Anniversary of the January 24th HWPL Peace Day was held in the Philippines!

 [HWPL]

[HWPL] 8th Anniversary of the January 24th HWPL Peace Day was held in the Philippines!

An international online peace conference was held to celebrate the 8th anniversary of a civilian-led peace agreement in Mindanao on the 24th of January. The day was designated as the HWPL Peace Day by the Province of Maguindanao and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in the Philippines.

The event, under the theme of “Law of Peace in Heaven and on Earth” gathered more than 2,000 social representatives. In addition, this event served as a venue to raise public support for establishing an international law for peace based on the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and to promote interfaith harmony between religions.

The host organization, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), is a non-governmental organization associated with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC). Since 2013, the organization has been committed to various peace activities for world peace and the cessation of war.

HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee visited the Philippines to contribute to the peace-building efforts in Mindanao starting with the peace agreement made on January 24th, 2014 between the Islam and Catholic communities through Hon. Esmael G. Mangudadatu, the then Governor of Maguindanao and Archbishop-Emeritus Fernando Capalla of the Archdiocese of Davao. Through the agreement, the Province of Maguindanao established January 24th every year as HWPL Peace Day in 2015 and built the first peace monument in the Philippines.

Since then, annual commemorative events such as grand peace festivals and interfaith conferences were continued to celebrate the peace agreement and raise awareness of peace among citizens in the Mindanao region. On the 2nd anniversary of the civilian-led peace agreement on January 24th, 2016, the unveiling ceremony of HWPL Peace Monument was held inside MILF's Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat, Mindanao, while January 24th was also declared as a Peace Day by Hon. Ahod Ebrahim, Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The event’s main speakers were Justice Raoul Victorino (ret), Chairman of the Philippine National Prayer Breakfast (PNPB), Prabhu Mahendra Das, Temple President of Sri Sri Radha Madhava Mandir, and Dr. Ronald Adamat, Commissioner of the Commissioner on Higher Education (CHED). Also, representatives from different sectors including law, education, youth, women, media, and more presented commitment messages towards peace.
