[HWPL] Nations of Korean War and HWPL. Serial Posting 10. The End and The Peace

[HWPL] Nations of Korean War and HWPL. Serial Posting 10. The End and The Peace

Year 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean War which scarred the whole Korean peninsula in the 20th century. Two ideologies (democracy and communism) clashed on a small peninsula as 21 countries fought for the ideologies they followed and more than 50 countries helping one side with medical or financial support.

The war started on June 25th 1950 with North Korea's invasion of South Korea at 4 a.m., and ended on July 27th 1953.

Everyone struggled for the peace that they believed in, resulting in catastrophic casualties and damages. Let's examine this with the following figures for each party that includes death, injury and missing persons.

South Korea (Republic of Korea): 609,000

United Nations (United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, Netherlands, Canada, France, Togo, New Zealand, Philippines, Turkey, Thailand, Republic of South Africa, Greece, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ethiopia, Colombia): 546,000

North Korea (People's Republic of Korea): 800,000

China (People's Republic of China): 973,000

Civilians in South and North Korea: Approx. 2,078,000 (It means 1 person killed, injured or lost per family unit in Korea. It also means that 1/5 of the total population in South and North Korea suffered death, injury or went missing)

Total: Approx. 5,006,000

Moreover, the war damaged South and North Korea on a social and economic aspect. 40% of South Korean industrial infrastructure was damaged, and North Korea suffered losses of 74% in electric power, 89% in the fuel industry and 70% in the chemical industry.

Even after widespread devastation to lives and nations caused by the Korean War, global conflicts have not ceased.

Today, to stop unceasing conflicts and acts of terror, Chairman Man Hee Lee and his peace groups (HWPL, IWPG and IPYG) are working together with people throughout the world for sustainable world peace.

Since June, I have been making these serial postings in order to recall the Korean War, paying respect to all those who fought and sacrificed their lives in the Korean War, and to inform you how Mr. Man Hee Lee and his peace groups (HWPL, IWPG and IPYG) have been working for world peace and for future generations :)

I've introduced a few countries (it's a shame that I couldn't post all of them due to a lack of photographs or copyright issues) that participated in the Korean War and what they are doing with Chairman Man Hee Lee's peace groups for world peace.

Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light), who is also a veteran of the Korean War, underwent all kinds of cruelty and hardship during the Korean War and has been working for world peace since 2012. Chairman Man Hee Lee has toured the world more than 30 times, and VIPs and global citizens have been passionately collaborating for world peace with HWPL towards peace and harmony.

They have participated in the WARP (World Alliance of Religions' Peace) World Peace Festival yearly on September 18th, the May 25th Peace Walk, Legislate Peace project, WARP Meeting & Interfaith Dialogues, Peace Letter campaigns and other initiatives in order to achieve world peace with Chairman Man Hee Lee and the peace groups (HWPL, IWPG and IPYG).

I really hope and believe that the world can achieve peace as we keep working with Chairman Man Hee Lee and HWPL for a brighter future for posterity :)

[Food] Too BUSY to grab a bite? Here's some Biji-Jjigae. (비지찌개, Biji (Soybean Pulp) Stew)

[Food] Too BUSY to grab a bite? Here's some Biji-Jjigae. (비지찌개, Biji (Soybean Pulp) Stew)

Biji-Jjigae (비지찌개, Biji (Soybean Pulp) Stew)

Biji is not commonly eaten by the younger Korean generation. They may know 'dubu' (tofu/bean curd), which is a very common, cheap and delicious food. Biji is the product of bean curd, like dofu is to soybean. For a long time it's been eaten by poorer households who are unable to afford bean curd, but many Koreans love it today for its savory and mild flavor which often tastes better than bean curd.

Koreans use biji as a side dish and stew; Biji-Jjigae (비지찌개, Biji (Soybean Pulp) Stew) is one of them. Biji-Jjigae is also one of my favorite Korean foods. A typical Biji-Jjigae recipe uses pork and fermented kimchi to add some spice and a deep savory flavor.

It may look very creamy and crunchy, but it gives you a traditional, savory, mild and soft soybean flavor :) I'm sure that the older poorer generation who only survived on biji wouldn't have imagined that their future generation would eat biji as gourmet cuisine :)

It's not hard to find biji or biji-jjigae at the grocer's or restaurant in Korea as it's a typical Korean food but is not well-known to non-Koreans and the younger Korean generation. I think the reason is that there are more delicious and better foods and ingredients than biji today :)

However, biji and biji-jjigae is still a great Korean dish that I want to introduce you to because it is a hearty and warm meal for Koreans who have had to go through all kinds of hardship even until now :)

[Food] Dori'bangbang'? No, Doribaengbaeng (도리뱅뱅, Spicy Roasted Minnow)

Doribaengbaeng (도리뱅뱅, Spicy Roasted Minnow)

Today eating saltwater fish is very common for Koreans. Maybe it's very obvious because Korea is a country on the peninsular with vast marine resources and fishing technology. The East Sea and waters to the west and south have been long-time suppliers of a variety of seafoods to Koreans, but only to people living in cities near the coastlines.

Those less fortunate to be born in the inner (central) part of South Korea have had few opportunities to taste saltwater fish because of poor transport networks as seafood becomes stale during its period of transportation from the sea. However, there are many streams and creeks in mountains and plains that provide much freshwater fish and shellfish.

Minnow is a very common, typical freshwater fish found in any stream or creek in South Korea. It's not a big fish;  just the size of one's palm. Let me show you a picture of it because I think that seeing it is believing.

Minnow (피라미, It's called 'Pirahmi' in Korean)

I'm quite sure that Koreans are not only people refined in good music but also fine gourmet. People in Chungcheong Province thought about eating freshwater fish in a more delectable manner and so invented 'Doribaengbaeng (도리뱅뱅, Spicy Roasted Minnow)'. It's a very simple dish where one roasts small minnows on a grill or pan then tops it with a spicy sauce, garnished with a sprinkling of sesame seed :)

Doribaengbaeng (도리뱅뱅, Spicy Roasted Minnow)

It had only become a well-known traditional Korean food in 2019 when a comedian on a major prime-time show aired nationally stopped at Geumgang Rest Area to eat doribaengbaeng. I haven't tasted it yet but I really want to, and I wonder how it tastes :)

If you ever visit Chungcheong Province or Geumgang Rest Area, please try doribaengbaeng and tell me how it tastes :) I hope I can taste it soon in the near future :)
