[HWPL] HWPL Hosted the 8th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace!

HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light, Chairman Man-Hee Lee) hosted their 8th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace online on May 25th 2021 with around 3,000 people from 150 countries in attendance.

The event is hosted annually by HWPL with its affiliated groups including IPYG (International Peace Youth Group), IWPG (International Women's Peace Group) and more.

Participating organizations and attendees talked about citizen-led peace activities, collaboration for achievement of world peace and resolutions to global challenges in this current pandemic era.

The Declaration of World Peace was proclaimed on May 25th in 2013. It addresses joint peace work among countries to establish international law for peace, the role of the media for world peace and vigorous peace movements among youth and women, who are often the main victims of war.

Many VIPs and world leaders who have been cooperating with HWPL and Chairman Man-Hee Lee gave remarkable speeches at the event highlighting the importance of guiding and teaching people to achieve world peace.

HWPL's Chairman Man-Hee Lee stated: "It is us today who must do everything necessary to make peace and prevent our world from being destroyed. War does not simply end with words, but with practical steps. I believe that this can be achieved since no one in our global village is not willing to see peace."

Peace!

[Food] Tangpyeong-chae (Mung Bean Jelly Salad, 탕평채)

[Food] Tangpyeong-chae (Mung Bean Jelly Salad, 탕평채)

Tangpyeong-chae is a traditional Korean court cuisine that has a very definite origin and history. 'Tangpyeong' means equity and justice in Korean and 'chae' means 'chopped'. Tangpyeong-chae was invented by King Yeongjo of Chosun dynasty in the 18th century. King Yeongjo implemented a policy called 'Tangpyeong' which appointed a government official from every political party fairly to prevent and resolve conflicts between factions.

When King Yeongjo discussed his 'Tangpyeong' policy to his officials, he served 'Tangpyeong-chae' to symbolize his policy. Tangpyeong-chae consists of chopped mung bean jelly, seaweed, vegetables and beef. It has four colors, which are white, red, blue and black. Each color represents one of the four factions that his officials belonged to, so tangpyeong-chae represents a peaceful mixture of them.

King Yeongjo explained and also emphasised that he would never be swayed or controlled by political factions through tangpyeong-chae.

Today, tangpyeong-chae is a popular traditional court cuisine in Korea that is very refreshing, savory and flavorsome without political bias. Koreans usually eat it in spring and summer as a cool salad dish.

Anyway, despite King Yeongjo's effort to remove conflict among factions, political conflicts in Korea (and even in the world) still continue on by different people and parties in the Korean Parliament. I'd like to serve these Korean politicians a dish of tangpyeong-chae to tell them, 'Please do not fight for your power and honor but for your people in Korea who voted for you'.

[HWPL] Memorandum of Understanding with the Pan-African Parliament... “Agree on a project to achieve peace and the end of war”

 [HWPL]

[HWPL] Memorandum of Understanding with the Pan-African Parliament... “Agree on a project to achieve peace and the end of war”

A Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and HWPL on August 9, 2018.

Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL, Chairman Man-Hee Lee) conducted their 29th peace tour in Africa for 11 days from August 8th to 18th, 2018. On August 9, HWPL held an MOU signing ceremony with the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) at the office of the chairman of the PAP Headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa.

This memorandum of understanding was written to achieve the common goal of ending war and achieving peace through cooperation between Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL, Chairman Man-Hee Lee) and the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).

On August 9th 2018, the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Committee meeting was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Members watched a video of the peace tour prepared by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL).

PAP Chairman Roger Nkodo Dang said, “Because the Pan-African Parliament is a congress of the entire African continent, Chairman Lee's words will be delivered to all 55 countries in Africa. We have to present something helpful and tangible. Chairman Lee can provide answers for the African people,” he expressed his impressions of the MOU.

In addition, while introducing HWPL and Chairman Lee at the PAP meeting, he said, “Africa is facing many challenges, challenges of peace. Chairman Lee’s work and experience will be a great help in building peace in Africa. There are African people who want to hear Lee’s words.”

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the common goal of PAP and HWPL is to promote a culture of peace, security, stability, and peace among all peoples, including women and youth. Accordingly, the two organizations agreed to cooperate together to implement projects that are effective tools for ending wars and achieving peace for this generation.

On August 9th 2018, a meeting of the Pan-African Committee of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) in Johannesburg, South Africa was held, where HWPL's Chairman Man-Hee Lee signed an MOU with PAP Chairman Roger Eunkodo Dang.

The project proposed by HWPL through a memorandum of understanding is ▲Peace Education ▲Peace Monument ▲Invitation of religious leaders, women and young people to operate the integrated transportation office ▲Activities to support the implementation of the provisions of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)-International Projects of International Youth Peace Group (IPYG) and International Women's Peace Group (IWPG).

Both groups agreed to support each individual's efforts for peace, but more importantly, agreed to work together to ensure that these individual efforts are united for one purpose, with one common goal.

The relationship between HWPL and PAP dates back to August 2016, when HWPL's South African branch attended the PAP Speaker's Conference as an observer. At that time, as an opportunity to observe, Madagascar Parliament's Chairman Jean Max Rakotomamonjy invited HWPL officials to the Madagascar Parliament. After that, HWPL invited chairman Rakatomamonjy of the Madagascar Parliament to the 2nd annual commemoration of the HWPL World Peace Summit, which expanded official exchanges with PAP personnel.

Chairman Man-Hee Lee (second from left), who visited the PAP headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa on August 9th, 2018, invited Chairman Roger Eunkodo Daeng (third from left) and Madagascar Parliament Speaker Jean Max Rakotomonji (first from left) and advisory committee members. They took a commemorative photo following the event.

After the 2nd annual commemoration of HWPL's World Peace Summit, HWPL was introduced to PAP Chairman Roger Nkodo Daeng by PAP First Vice Chairman Stephen Julius Masele, and exchanged with PAP International Relations Committee members and the secretariat were also active.

Meanwhile, in August 2018, the news that HWPL Chairman Man-Hee Lee and the peace advocates would visit South Africa was delivered to Parliamentary Speaker Rakotomamonjy and PAP Chairman Roger Eunkodo Dang. Chairman Lee's visit led to the signing of an MOU between PAP and HWPL.

HWPL Chairman Man-Hee Lee spoke at the 2018 Addis Ababa Conference ‘International Cooperation for Sustainable Peace’ forum held at the headquarters of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, South Africa on August 16th, 2018. Major African figures and high-ranking political and legal leaders from the Middle East attended the conference.

On August 9th 2018, the PAP delivered an official letter of support from the Pan-African Parliament regarding the 10 artcles, 38 clauses of the DPCW to HWPL. PAP's support for the DPCW had the same meaning as the support of 55 African countries.

After Chairman Lee's trip to Africa, PAP Chairman Roger Eunkodo Daeng sent PAP officials to the 4th annual commemoration of the HWPL World Peace Summit held in Korea in September 2018. PAP officials' attendance at the 5th HWPL World Peace Summit's commemorative ceremony led to a firm trust in HWPL's peace activities.

[Food] Jumuleok (Quick marinated pork, 주물럭)

 [Food]

[Food] Jumuleok (Quick marinated pork, 주물럭)

Jumuleok (Quick marinated pork, 주물럭) is a Korean pork dish that most Koreans love, it's usually red, spicy and sweet which are Koreans' favorite flavors. However, no one knows its exact history and origin, but there's a story that jumuleok was first made by a granny who owned a restaurant. She was supposed to serve beef galbi to customers but because ingredients ran out, she marinated the beef by hand-rubbing and seasoning it before serving the dish. Customers then started to call that dish 'Jumuleok' from that day on.

So Jumuleok actually means 'hand-rubbing' in Korean, but it's used as a name for a quickly marinated pork dish today. It doesn't need to be spicy, and it can be made sweet and salty with soy-sauce, too. Someone says it's very similar to 'Jeyuk-bokkeum (Stir Fried Spicy Pork, 제육볶음)' but people call any roasted or stir-fried marinated pork 'Jumuleok' whilst Jeyuk-bokkeum is a name for stir-fried pork only.

It can also be similar to galbi or bulgogi, but jumuleok doesn't need long time marinating or seasoned. Cook, hand-rub seasoning on pork and heat it.
Anyway, these are all nice Korean dishes :)

[IPYG] IPYG Germany Gives Hope to Children with Cancer through Volunteer Activity - Short News

In March 2021, the German branch of IPYG (International Peace Youth Group) did volunteer work for 25 children and their guardians to commemorate HWPL's (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light; Chairman Man-Hee Lee) 5th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). It also formed part of implementing the 10th Article of the DPCW, which is spreading a culture of peace.

Children with cancer in Germany lost their chance to meet others, play outdoors and in places to learn after COVID-19. Given this situation, a German child cancer volunteer group wanted to host volunteer activities for them. So IPYG contacted the child cancer volunteer group and hosted 3 volunteer activities in March.

IPYG volunteers made bracelets, dreamcatcher and cards to celebrate Easter with children and their guardians, spreading some joy to them.

It seems like IPYG (including HWPL and IWPG) won't stop spreading a culture of peace despite COVID-19. They will go through any hardship to shine the light of peace to the world :)

[HWPL] HWPL's Plaque of Appreciation from Legal and Religious Figures in Nigeria

[HWPL] HWPL's Plaque of Appreciation from Legal and Religious Figures in Nigeria

A plaque of appreciation delivered by Prof. Sampson of the Nigerian National Defence College, expressing gratitude and respect for Chairman Man-Hee Lee's peace move

Certificate of recognition by Archbishop Akinnugba of the Byzantine Orthodox Church in Nigeria, commending Chairman Man-Hee Lee's efforts for world peace

The citizens of countries experiencing civil war and conflict constantly seek out causes and solutions to achieve peace. However, since complex interests such as politics, religion and ethnicity are intertwined, no one can provide an easy solution. Also, even when a solution is proposed, it is not easy to have the influence and infrastructure to implement it. For this reason, it is said that peace is in the 'realm of God' that humans alone cannot achieve.

In 2016, a Nigerian legal scholar admired the incredible achievements and peace movements of HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light; Chairman Man-Hee Lee) within just 5 years after witnessing it with his own eyes. He is Professor Dr. Isaac Terwase Sampson, an officer of the National Defense College of Nigeria and a Ph.D. in International Law. He paid attention to the DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) - HWPL's proposed solution to ending global conflict and achieving world peace. After the DPCW was announced on March 14, 2016, a forum for the formation of a global consensus was set up in Korea in September of the same year. It was a ceremony to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the 9.18 World Peace Summit. Professor Sampson attended the commemorative program as a session presenter. At this event, he delivered a plaque of appreciation to Chairman Man-Hee Lee, who was given praise for his peace movement.

On September 18 in 2016, at the Jamsil Olympic Main Stadium in Seoul, the World Peace Summit was held in commemoration of the 2nd anniversary of the 1st World Peace Summit. Chairman Man-Hee Lee delivered commemorative remarks.

On September 18 in 2016, at the Jamsil Olympic Main Stadium in Seoul, the World Peace Summit was held to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the World Peace Summit. During the evening Daedong Festival, HWPL members created star-shaped lights.

Prof. Samson, an officer and Ph.D. of law at Nigerian National Defense College, spoke at a session on the 2nd anniversary of the World Peace Summit on September 17, 2016.

Professor Sampson expressed his strong support for peace activities around the world as HWPL called for the enactment of international law. Prof. Sampson, who has been researching disputes, including religious disputes in Nigeria, felt a deep need for peace. Prof. Sampson holds a research post at the Nigerian National Defense College, where he conducted thorough research on the disputes between Islam and Christianity in northern and southern Nigeria, and intra-religious disputes in the northern part of Nigeria. He also mentioned the seriousness of interreligious disputes in Nigeria in a number of articles published in 2012, including the article “Religious Violence in Nigeria: General Diagnosis and Strategic Recommendations for State and Religious Groups”. He pointed out that Nigerian religions shout for unity, but contradictorily, conflict is the cause. Prof. Sampson was appointed as an advisory member of HWPL on September 19, 2016.

The Nigerian National Defense College was established in 1992 by the armed forces of the country and is located in the capital, Abuja. It is a military training organization for the Nigerian army and an excellent center for training peace support operations at the strategic level in West Africa. Lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences are provided to improve the skills of high-ranking military and officers. The current representative is Rear Admiral Oladele Bamidele Daji.

There is another Nigerian figure who attended the 2nd anniversary of the World Peace Summit with Professor Sampson - Archbishop Anthony McPonce Osmond Akinnugba of the Byzantine Orthodox Church in Nigeria. Archbishop Akinugba also delivered a certificate of recognition to Chairman Lee at this event. The certification stated, "The Byzantine Orthodox Church confers a commendation for the efforts and achievements of Chairman Man-Hee Lee for the restoration of world peace."

World religious leaders attending the 2nd Anniversary Ceremony of the World Peace Summit enter the event venue at Jamsil Main Stadium, Seoul.

Archbishop Akinnugba of the Byzantine Orthodox Church of Nigeria was at the 2nd anniversary of the World Peace Summit.

He also attended the 1st anniversary of the World Peace Summit in 2015, and agreed to HWPL's peace solutions and attended the 1st to 6th sessions at the Office of the Religious Association in Lagos, Nigeria. HWPL's WARP (World Alliance of Religions' Peace) office conducts a comparative discussion of scripture with the aim of resolving the cause of religious disputes and uniting the religious world. Religious people attending this meeting share the core teachings of each religion's scriptures and engage in dialogue to find better values. Archbishop Akinnugba, who supports this purpose, provided the meeting place and technological set-up for the 4th~6th Offices of the WARP Office. At the 5.25 event in 2016, he sent a congratulatory message in a video.

Archbishop Akinugba was elected Archbishop of Nigeria in 2014, and has been providing education for the poor, the sick (especially AIDS patients), struggling to survive financial constraints, and people who have lost hope. He is also working with dignity as a religious person within the field of human rights. He worked in Kenya's NGO for Children's Rights (Africa Peace Point) and in the Kibera slums in Kenya. In Tanzania, he worked for two years in charity, evangelism, and ministry for AIDS patients through the establishment of a non-profit organization.

[Food] Memilmuk (Buckwheat Jelly, 메밀묵)

 [Food]

[Food] Memilmuk (Buckwheat Jelly, 메밀묵)

No one can say since when Koreans started to cook and eat memilmuk (Buckwheat Jelly, 메밀묵), but Koreans know that people of Gangwon and Chungcheong have been eating it for a very long time, though there is no official record of memilmuk remaining till today.

Buckwheat is a very tough and vigorous plant so it can be grown in mountains and barren fields. This is why common people (generally poor and hungry) farmed it easily for their survival. People peeled them and processed them into buckwheat powder for noodle or jelly, and stuffed them very well during the hard season without rice, such as in spring and winter, as well as barley. So, even today, there are memilmuk sellers who yell 'me-mil-muk!' and 'chop-ssal-ddeok!' when selling memilmuk and rice cake with red bean paste contained within for a traditional nighttime snack (usually 8-11pm).  Maybe that's why memilmuk is a favorite food of Doggaebi (goblin in Korean traditional fantasy). It's a very intimate food for Koreans.

Buckwheat has a rough and choppy texture but is more savory than normal wheat. This is why Koreans make them into noodle and jelly.

It's less chewy and bitter, but softer than dotorimuk (Korean acorn jelly) so people usually eat them at night with well-fermented kimchi and soy sauce. Memilmuk can be made into memilmukbab (Buckwheat jelly with rice and soup) with fermented kimchi and cold/hot soup, too, which is a traditional food in Gangwon and Chungcheong province.

If you are familiar with rice cake, how about trying memilmuk, too?

[HWPL] Let's Talk International Peace Law through the DPCW Handbook Discussion Project!

HWPL has been operating its 'DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) Handbook Discussion Project' in many countries including Afghanistan, Tunisia, Romania, Bangladesh, India and more since 2020 through NGOs in each respective country. It has opened a way for law students and citizens throughout the world to understand the value and spirit of world peace through the DPCW, so that people everywhere can work together to achieve world peace by constructing an international consensus for an end to war and achievement of global peace.

The DPCW is a draft for a new international law with 10 articles and 38 clauses to ensure sustainable peace worldwide for future generations.

Participants of the Handbook Discussion Project are divided into groups to discuss and present one clause of the DPCW for 1~2 hours with comments from law experts.

Dr. Masum Billah (Director of Human Rights Summer School, Empowerment Through Law of the Common People, Assistant Professor of Jagannath University) said, "I hope the DPCW handbook discussion project will serve as an opportunity for students to grow mentally. Communicating and cooperating with each other in the process of preparing for the project is a truly valuable time, so I hope that the rest of the time will be in a peace and harmony attitude."

Dr. Ashok Kumar (Faculty Member, Faculty of Legal Studies, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in India) added, "The DPCW project will promote peace around the world. I think this opportunity will allow students to analyze and examine effective laws for peace."

Through the DPCW Handbook Discussion Project, it is highly expected that participants will thoroughly grasp the importance of world peace that must be protected for the world. Moreover, they will become peace advocates who can spread the DPCW curriculum to people in their country.

[Food] Visual Recipe for Gangdoenjang (Soybean Paste Sauce, 강된장)

 [Food]

[Food] Visual Recipe for Gangdoenjang (Soybean Paste Sauce, 강된장)

Doenjang (Korean bean paste) and Gangdoenjang (Soybean paste sauce) are Korean traditional sauces with a 1,000 year history. It's still one of Koreans' most common and popular ingredients for many Korean dishes including Doenjang jjigae. Today, I cooked Gangdoenjang for dinner :)

1. Cut onions and king oyster mushrooms into small cubes

2. Mix doenjang (Korean bean paste), gochujnag (Korean chili paste) and honey to gangdeonjang base. Prepare manila clam and freshwater snail.

3. Put some perilla oil into a pot, pour the chopped onion and mushroom and stir for a minute over medium heat until water comes out of them.

4. When the onion and mushroom is well cooked, add pre-prepared manila clam and freshwater snail. Stir them for two minutes till they ooze enough water out over a medium heat. Then add pre-mixed doenjang paste and stir again.

5. Keep stirring over medium heat to evaporate enough water so it can be thickened as much as you want.

6. Enjoy gangdoenjang with fresh vegetables and steamed rice! :)
