[IPYG] IPYG's Peace Event in Australia!

[IPYG] IPYG's Peace Event in Australia!

Chairman ManHee Lee is the head representative of the global peace organization HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light), which is striving for the enactment and implementation of the international peace law 'Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)'. The  DPCW is a legal instrument comprised of 10 articles and 38 clauses that can end wars and hostilities throughout the world. HWPL is also spreading a culture of peace and implementing peace education.

Chairman ManHee Lee experienced the cruelty and tragedy of war as a veteran of the Korean War. This is one of the reasons why he founded a global peace campaign as the head of HWPL. He has traveled the globe more than 35 times to meet and persuade politicians, legal experts, journalists, professors, peace activists, civil organization leaders, heads of tribes and others to unite them for the work of peace. The significant fruits borne out of his hard work are the World Alliance of Religions' Peace (WARP) Summit and HWPL Peace Committee. The DPCW was drafted and finalised by the HWPL Peace Committee.

How, you may wonder, do I know this? About 10 years ago, when I had just been discharged from military service, I came to know HWPL and Chairman ManHee Lee while researching the topic of civil conflicts to satisfy my curiosity in ongoing global issues. At that time, the island of Mindanao in the Philippines was suffering from a major civil conflict that lasted more than 40 years, and Chairman ManHee Lee and HWPL resolved this conflict through non-violent means.

Chairman Lee brought an end to the conflict in Mindanao by holding a peace talk between the warring Catholic and Islamic groups. Before the talk, HWPL and Chairman ManHee Lee held a Peace Walk to spread the culture of peace in Mindanao with the many locals who had gathered out of a desire for peace.

Chairman ManHee Lee's pressing appeal today is that humanity unites for sustainable peace in order to pass on the legacy of peace to future generations worldwide. He doesn't just talk peace, but has worked tirelessly for it through practical peace campaigns for over a decade.

I decided to become a supporter of HWPL and Chairman ManHee Lee's peace initiatives because I also desire a world of peace for all posterity.

Today I'd like to introduce an article regarding IPYG's (International Peace Youth Group, the youth affiliate of HWPL) peace event in Australia :)

IPYG Australia branch spreads a culture of peace to underprivileged people in the Brisbane community.

Providing free food to socially vulnerable groups

Last December, the IPYG Australian branch collaborated with Community Friends organization in the Brisbane City to conduct volunteer activities providing free food and clothing to those in need at Bunyapa Park in West End, Brisbane City.

The IPYG Australian branch initiated volunteer work to disseminate a culture of peace to neighbors and marginalized individuals within the community. They had a meeting with Mr. Mark McDonnell, Managing Director of Community Friends, an organization actively addressing the needs of people facing hardship and homelessness due to housing shortages in Brisbane. Community Friends regularly distributes food to those struggling financially and offers various forms of support to individuals experiencing homelessness.

During the recent volunteer activity, the IPYG Australian branch, alongside Community Friends, prepared food to distribute to the homeless and facilitated dialogue sessions to strengthen community networks for people with multi-national backgrounds to have social cohesion. Participants engaged in conversations aimed at fostering understanding and solidarity among individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Through these interactions, words of comfort and warmth were shared, contributing to the sense of unity and community cohesion.

Moving forward, the IPYG Australian branch plans to continue collaborating with various local organizations to conduct diverse volunteer activities aimed at spreading a culture of peace to marginalized youth and citizens within the community.

Today I'd like to introduce an article regarding HWPL's Peace Event in Czech for Ukrainian Refugee :)

Gala Charity Night for the Ukrainian Refugee Children

HWPL Czech branch hosted Gala Charity Night in the New Year with Dum Dobra, a humanitarian charity organization supporting Ukrainian refugee children.

Almost two years from the outbreak of the war, thousands of Ukrainian citizens are living as refugees abroad. Among them, the majority are women and children who are experiencing inconveniences in maintaining basic livelihoods. Not only that but also suffer from mental trauma due to violence, loss, and family separation during the conflict.

The Czech Republic accepted the third largest number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe. The government and civil society have joined together to provide various supports to Ukrainian refugees across society so that they can at least forget the pain caused by the war. However, amid the prolongation of the war and the global economic downturn, support from the government and relief organizations is weakening, and new social problems such as refugee children not being guaranteed sufficient right to education due to language and cultural differences, and Ukrainian refugees not being able to function as members of society are emerging.

Based on this background, the HWPL Czech Branch planned a special event with Dum Dobra, a charity organization actively helping Ukrainian refugees who escaped the war. A special Gala Night was organized where Czech citizens and Ukrainian refugees could enjoy various cultural and artistic performances during the cold winter. We also decided to collaborate with Ukrainian artists and raise donations for refugee children by auctioning off their artworks.

The performance was organized by Ukrainian Action School, Darian Dance Studio and IPYG youth volunteers under the three themes of “evil,” “warm touch,” and “freedom”. In addition, Yulia Yusenko played the Bandura, a Ukrainian national instrument, and Laye Beusse sang Senegalese music, adding variety to the performance. Total of 6 teams prepared performances to warm the hearts of attendees. Afterwards, 11 artworks by Ukrainian artists found new owners through an auction.

A total of 150 Czech figures and Ukrainian refugees from all walks of life attended the event. Citizens who had forgotten about peace have expressed their gratitude for holding this New Year event in the Czech Republic, and also participated in voluntary donations, adding to the warmer atmosphere of the event.

It was decided that the donations raised would be used to support Domdobra’s program for Ukrainian refugee children. The program will help the children overcome mental trauma of war and will include various social integration education to help them adapt to Czech society. Over the past year, more than 1,000 Ukrainian refugees have received help through the Domdobra organization, it is also expected that many more children will receive help through this program.

Moreover, in 2024, Dom Dobra and HWPL are planning to strengthen cooperation and collaborate on programs that can help the social integration of refugees living in the Czech Republic.

Introducing the IPYG Affiliate Organization – Positive Peace Ethiopia

HWPL Life Sharing Blood Donation Campaign held in July last year

Positive Peace Ethiopia (PPE), a youth organization based in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, is an NGO that engages in various peace activities such as conflict resolution, peace education, human rights, arms reduction, and peace building. Founded by Mr. Solomon Girma, the President of Positive Peace Ethiopia, and three co-founders, the organization currently comprises approximately 210 members.

It takes a leading role in peace efforts for youth, including hosting the ‘Youth Dialogue Workshop commemorating the International Day of Peace,’ organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

In July 2023, Positive Peace Ethiopia collaborated with IPYG to conduct the ‘HWPL Blood Donation Campaign.’ While only 1% of the population in Ethiopia donates blood, Positive Peace Ethiopia, alongside IPYG, raised awareness about the importance of blood donation in the local community and encouraged participation.

Co-founder Mr. Chalachew Worku delivered a message to young people, promising active cooperation with IPYG in the future:

“Positive Peace Ethiopia extends a message of unity, collaboration, and empowerment to vibrant youth worldwide. Together, we have the power to shape a world of peace, understanding, and positive change. Let’s bridge boundaries, foster dialogue, and work hand in hand to build a future where our collective efforts create a lasting impact. Your energy, ideas, and commitment are the driving force for a better tomorrow. Join us on this journey for a world united in peace and prosperity!”

Introducing the IPYG Affiliate Organization – Jssor Youth Organization

MENA Region YEPW Meeting

Jssor Youth Organization, an affiliate of IPYG, operates as an NGO in Tikar, located in southern Iraq. Under the leadership of Mr. Mortadha Abdillah, the organization mobilizes youth from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to engage in peace-building initiatives, including youth campaigns and efforts to combat sexual violence. Its activities align closely with UNSC Resolution 2250, contributing positively to Iraqi society.

The organization actively participates in the MENA Youth Engagement & Peacebuilding Working Group (YEPW), facilitating activities such as interviews and surveys to enhance the awareness and understanding of youth in the Middle East. These efforts aim to empower young people to play meaningful roles in promoting peace.

Lastly, here is a message from Ms. Yasmine Wertan, Program Manager of Jssor Youth Organization.

“Peace and security are not merely the absence of violence or the cessation of conflicts; they entail envisioning free and democratic societies that uphold principles of justice, dignity, and address social, political, and structural inequalities. Simply involving youth in peace processes falls short; they must actively engage in all political processes and decision-making affecting them and society. This aspect demands careful consideration in our endeavors towards peacebuilding.”

Today I'd like to introduce an article regarding HWPL's Peace Education in Sri Lanka :)

[HWPL True Story, Peace Education - Sri Lanka] “What we need to do now is to sow peace in the world and implement peace education”

Chairman ManHee Lee, founder of HWPL and a veteran of the Korean War, said, “Let’s create a world of peace without war and pass it on to future generations as a legacy,” and personally travelled around the world 31 times to encourage all students around the world to create and maintain peace. HWPL has taken the lead in peace education projects to help build strength.

Above all, HWPL's peace education does not just call for peace in words, but uses HWPL's peace actions, which Chairman Lee personally took the initiative to realise, as the basis for education. A case study is the peaceful resolution of the 50-year religious armed conflict on Mindanao Island in the Philippines, which was achieved through mediation by Chairman Lee himself. The 'step for peace' shown by a private organisation, not an international organization or a government agency, is attracting attention because it presents a clear answer to preventing the needless loss of life due to war.

In particular, the more countries have suffered from civil war, the more they realise the importance of HWPL's peace education. Sri Lanka is a country that experienced a civil war for 26 years from July 23rd 1983 to May 18th 2009. It was a civil war between Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a Tamil rebel group. The 26-year civil war ended when Sri Lankan government forces suppressed areas controlled by the LTTE. The civil war has ended, but the wounds are still not healed, and the desire for peace is earnest. This article explores peace education in Sri Lanka.

[HWPL True Story, Peace Education-Burundi] Burundi, suffering from civil war, has hope through peace education… “Let’s raise messengers of peace”

Peace education is one of HWPL's major projects, based on the recognition that it is important to awaken the value of peace in order to pass on peace as a legacy to future generations. HWPL is striving to foster peaceful citizens by developing peace education courses, training teachers, and opening peace classes. Peace education being implemented all over the world shows the realisation of Article 10, ‘Spreading the Culture of Peace’, among the 10 provisions of the Global Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).

In particular, educational institutions in countries and regions suffering from long-standing wars and civil wars are giving more active support than anyone else to HWPL's peace education, which teaches practical peace. HWPL peace education is also actively underway in Burundi, a country in eastern Africa. Above all, HWPL's peace education is desperately needed in Burundi, where civil wars and conflicts are frequent.

A high-ranking Burundian official also visited Korea to attend the HWPL event. Former President of Burundi Domitien Ndayizeye, attended the 4th Annual Commemoration of the September 18th World Peace Summit hosted by HWPL on September 19th 2018. He said, “We must join forces to find a way to prevent war,” and added, “I ask all countries in the United Nations to support HWPL.”

Peace Children’s Choir Launching Ceremony

On November 27th of last year, the Peace Children’s Choir Launching Ceremony took place at Lighthouse International School in Dili, Timor-Leste. A total of 115 attendees, including 82 students and 11 teachers from Lighthouse International School, teachers from other schools, parents, pastors, and representatives from three media outlets, participated in the ceremony.

The connection between Lighthouse International School and HWPL began in 2022. Noel Dagumo Rebuyon, the school’s principal, participated in HWPL Peace Teacher Training on August 2022. From January to October 2023, he taught a peace education curriculum consisting of 12 lessons to 10 children at Lighthouse International School. Subsequently, starting from November, the second round of peace education has been ongoing.

Through the process of implementing peace education, Principal Rebuyon and HWPL contemplated how children could practice the values and meaning of peace they learned. As a result, they decided to establish a Peace Children’s Choir to spread a culture of peace through peaceful songs.

Preparations for the Peace Children’s Choir Launching Ceremony began in October of the previous year. The children prepared for the ceremony by practicing HWPL’s “Peace Hero” song with choreography, and successfully showcased their performance at the launching ceremony. Principal Rebuyon explained the significance and his impressions of the choir’s inauguration. Additionally, a representative of the school’s parents delivered a congratulatory speech, and the children pledged to grow as peace citizens by embodying the values of peace.

Parents and teachers who attended the event expressed pride in the stage the children had worked hard to prepare. The entire school community enjoyed the time together, singing along with the choir. Beatriz Pereira, a teacher from the Child Protection Center Kindergarten in Dili, Timor-Leste, expressed a desire to establish a Peace Children’s Choir at her school.

Moreover, Timor-Leste media outlets covered the Peace Children’s Choir Launching Ceremony, resulting in five separate media reports within Timor-Leste.

Today I'd like to introduce an article regarding HWPL's prayer conference for world peace :)

2nd HWPL Peace Concert held in Madagascar

On December 22, 2024, the ‘2nd HWPL Peace Concert’ was held in Madagascar. Co-hosted with Radisson Blu Hotel, the event had the presence of more than 100 people from various fields of expertise, including the U.S. Embassy in Madagascar, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Orange Telecom, UNESCO, civil organizations, and youth groups.

Madagascar is a country where 70% of the population suffers from extreme poverty. On top of this, typhoons and floods that occur every year cause serious damage to residential and educational infrastructure. As a result, 45% of the approximately 1.3 million elementary school students (ages 6 to 11) are unable to complete their elementary school education in order to support their families.

In this regard, HWPL has been opening libraries for elementary and middle school students from January 2022 and continued to conduct various education as well as volunteer activities. Until now, HWPL Peace Libraries have been inaugurated in 5 schools, donated over 1,000 books and provided basic education, including French, English and peace education.

Hon. Richard Jean Bosco Rivotiana, Minister of Labour, Employment, Public Service and Social Laws, who attended the event, expressed his support upon HWPL and said, “HWPL has been making tremendous accomplishments for peace throughout the years and I believe if we all work together as one for peace, we will surely be able to change our community into a peaceful community”.

Through this event, HWPL not only promoted its peace activities, but also requested for cooperation and support to the high-ranking government officials, businessmen, international organizations, and embassy officials in Madagascar. As a result, eight organizations expressed their intention to cooperate in peace activities with HWPL, and 80% of attendees voluntarily participated in donations, raising approximately 1 million Korean won. The donations raised will be used to open HWPL Peace Libraries and donate books to various areas in need of educational facilities.
