[HWPL] IWPG hosts 2021 International Women's Peace Conference!

The “2021 International Women’s Peace Conference”, hosted by the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG, Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon) to celebrate the 7th Commemoration of the September 18th World Peace Conference, concluded with great success.

The conference was held online at 2 PM (local time) in South Korea on the 19th and was held under the theme of “The Role of 3.9 billion Women for Sustainable Peace and the Improvement of the Status of Women”. About 800 female leaders both domestic and abroad attended this event.

The conference included, H.E. Peace Regis Mutuuzo (Directorate of Gender and Community Development in the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development, Uganda), Hyang Ran Lee (President of the Unification Oriented Council of the Republic of Korea), Evelyn Letooani (former High Commissioner of Lesotho to South Africa), Agatha Susila Anthony Dias (Founder and Director of Amcha Ghar, India) and H.E. Nasseneba Toure (Minister of Women, Family, and Children of Côte d’Ivoire) who participated to share practical experiences and various ideas.

In addition, to congratulate the 7th Commemoration of the World Peace Conference and the conference, Ivana Zemanova, First Lady of the Czech Republic; Thereza Siricio Iro, Chairperson of the South Sudan Women Peace Monitoring & Advocacy Group; Nicoline Wazeh, founder of Pathways for Women’s Empowerment and Development in Cameroon; Luis Otis, member of the UN Justice Council, and others sent congratulatory messages.

IWPG emphasized the intrinsic value of the role of 3.9 billion women in peace activities and the importance of spreading a culture of peace to end conflicts, terrorism, and wars occurring in various parts of the world in the new normal era after the COVID-19 pandemic. To realize world peace, the 3.9 billion women and IWPG must lay the groundwork for spreading a culture of peace.

The event also emphasized the spreading women’s peace movements based on the women’s network including urging support for the DPCW to be established as an international law to cease war.

In her greetings, Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon said, “IWPG has become the wing of peace and has been running with HWPL for the realization of world peace. We are still doing our best by converting all our activities to non-face-to-face online activities and communicating with IWPG members around the world for sustainable peace. The 3.9 billion women and IWPG will accomplish the realization of world peace together with HWPL under one heart and one mind.”

At the event, H.E. Peace Regis Mutuuzo, Directorate of Gender and Community Development in the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development of Uganda, said in a congratulatory speech that “we must feel the global role of 3.9 billion women in sustainable peace and the advancement of women’s status.”

Hyang Ran Lee, President of the Unification Oriented Council of the Republic of Korea, expressed her support and said, “The people attending this event are the independence forces of peace, and they are like light, rain and air, which give life to mankind. They do not give in to the pandemic and work to end global war.”

At the conference that day, the first speaker, Evelyn Letooani, former High Commissioner of Lesotho to South Africa, spoke on the theme of “the necessity and value of sustainable peace activities in line with the current situation (the new normal era).” “Peace starts with me and affects my family, my neighbors, my society and my country. This peace can be transmitted to neighboring countries and the entire world,” she said and added, “the 3.9 billion women around the world must unite and work with the IWPG for world peace and humanity.”

The second speaker was Agatha Susila Anthony Dias, Founder and Director of Amcha Ghar, India, spoke on “The Network of 3.9 Billion Women” and H.E. Nasseneba Toure, Minister of Women, Family, and Children of Côte d’Ivoire spoke on “the active role of women for the improvement of women’s status”.

Agatha Susila Anthony Dias said, “Being an IWPG peace lecturer is an honor that will be preserved for generations to come. We encourage 3.9 billion women to join the Peace Lecturer Training Education (PLTE) to become those who can sow this seed of peace to young children. Through this, in a few years, we will experience the world of peace that the DPCW will achieve.”

H.E. Nasseneba Toure said, “The quote ‘Peace’ is not a word but an action. It is engraved in the memory of all generations of Côte d’Ivoires. We will have to listen to the voices which all us and challenge us. I salute the IWPG for providing a platform to witness the action of a dedicated women’s organization.”

At the event, following the speeches on the topic, the IWPG Publicity Ambassador inauguration ceremony was held. Dr. Maha Alsakban, the Founder and Director of the Women’s Human Rights Center in Iraq; Professor Han Yeon-ju of Heilongjiang Province National Academy of China and Erlinda Olivia Tiu, National Secretary of the National Federation of Women’s Club of the Philippines, were appointed as Publicity Ambassador.

IWPG is a international women’s NGO registered with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN DGC) and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC).

[HWPL] HWPL's World Peace Summit Calling for Concerted Action for Sustainable Peace in the New Normal Era

On September 18th, 2021, the 7th Anniversary of the September 18th HWPL World Peace Summit was held online. This year's event dealt with the progress of international efforts and the plans to promote the peace agenda in the 'New Normal' era shifting from the post-Covid to the with-Covid. 

The organizer of the event, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), has been conducting citizen-centered peacebuilding activities to create “a culture of peace” advocated by the UN and international community to set up an environment of peaceful coexistence since the World Peace Summit in 2014.

This event presented the concerted action for sustainable peace with cases from various sectors such as international law, religion, education, and the media. Also, it addressed international cooperation to overcome the current crisis that threatens the coexistence and harmony of mankind, which has come to the fore during the pandemic. 

Peacebuilding efforts led by HWPL to establish legal foundations and international norms for peace through connecting global actors are embodied with its effort to advocate the international law for peace by drafting the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). 

“The DPCW Handbook enables us to systematically teach international law and the essence of peace to these students and others. It enables them to become lecturers in the following course,” said Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Chief Advisor of Asian Association of Law Professors (AALP) as well as Former Chair of National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh (NHRC-BD), highlighting the need to encourage public discourse on peacebuilding by academia.  

In addition to the basic principles of peace assigned to nations to uphold, the DPCW has presented principles that should be dealt with in the present era, such as prohibiting the use of force, fostering religious freedom, and civic participation to spread a culture of peace. In particular, it states that efforts for peace come from all members of the global society by identifying not only nation-states but also international organizations and all citizens as the main actors of building peace. 

“We know that it will be hard to achieve peace if we are not all working for it. This is why we need to encourage children, the youth, and adults to prevent verbal abuse and work towards reducing inequalities and eradicating disparities to achieve a more equitable, stable, and peaceful world,” said Former President of Ecuador, Dr. Rosalia Arteaga Serrano. 

Hon. Octavia Alfred, Minister of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training, and National Excellence of Dominica, said that the students learn the necessity of mutual coexistence and cooperation through HWPL peace education and pass on to their friends, parents, and teachers what they have learned. She addressed it also deals with concepts that can develop psychosocial competency skills, such as respect for diversity, order, conflict resolution, and negotiation, so it is being used for teacher's training. 

“Our objective is to end wars in the global village and establish peace and make it a permanent legacy for future generations. Without peace, everything that we managed to build would be destroyed. … We should not let this happen. So, to achieve peace, shouldn’t we achieve our objective with the same spirit?” said Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL at the event.
