On August 29, 2026, the Asian Highway Daecheong Lake Environmental Cleanup Plogging event took place near the Asian Highway in the Seokbong-dong area of Daedeok-gu, Daejeon. The event was hosted by the Korea Veterans Environmental Volunteer Corps and co-organized by Earth Run, and HWPL.
Approximately 50 people participated in the event, including Jeon Byeong-kwon, President of the Korea Veterans Environmental Volunteer Corps, members of Daejeon running crews, and Daejeon citizens. Despite the inclement weather caused by heavy rain prior to the event, participants engaged in plogging—running while collecting discarded trash—around Daecheong Lake and the Asian Highway area.

Roadside cleanup activity continuing even in the rain
This event was organized to expand social contribution activities based on Earth Run’s values, to address the need for preserving water quality at Daecheong Lake, and to clean up the environment near the Asian Highway. The initiative aims to actively respond to local environmental issues through a hands-on program involving direct citizen participation. Furthermore, it seeks to go beyond simple environmental cleanup and spread the Asian Highway’s values of connection and coexistence throughout the local community.
The Asian Highway is a project led by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) to connect 32 Asian countries into a single road network. In Korea, the Gyeongbu Expressway serves that role; Daejeon, a key transportation hub where the Gyeongbu and Honam corridors meet, acts as a midpoint for this route and holds symbolic significance as a point of “connection” linking the nation and the region.
The organizers stated that seeing the scheduled number of participants stay engaged until the very end—despite the inclement weather—confirmed the potential of a small-scale environmental cleanup model with citizen participation. Moving forward, they plan to expand the scale of the event by strengthening promotional efforts and broadening partnerships with collaborating organizations.
